Rudraksha is a fruit kernel, or more accurately, a kind of seed. This tree is typically found in mountainous terrain. Religious beliefs state that Rudraksha came from Lord Shiva's eyes' water glands. It is said that after a period of extreme penance, Lord Shankar opened his eyes and shed tears, which then fell to Earth and gave rise to the Rudraksha tree.
The words "Rudra" and "Aksha" combine to form the term "rudraksha." Given that Lord Shiva goes by the name "Rudra" and that the word "Aksha" means "tear," Rudraksha is regarded as a representation of Lord Shiva. For this reason, it is stated that Lord Shiva is fond of the wearer of the Rudraksha.
